Meet the Cast Part 5 – Tom Brown

BACK Moving onward and upward with our ongoing series to introduce the cast of MIND'S EYE THE SERIES... We introduce another member of the cast of MIND'S EYE THE SERIES. Today, we talk to Tom Brown. Not only does Tom play the Knight Mark in the series, but he's also the show's co-creator, screenwriter and co-director. With wearing so many hats its not hard to see - if you'll read below - why Tom idolizes Harrison Ford. And if you read deeper you'll understand how Tom can find the kid inside and why he and George Costanza have something in common. Name: Tom Brown Role: Hero Mark 1. What’s your previous acting experience? I started off on stage as an improv comedian, eventually making the jump to indie comedy and have acted in several short films and music videos since then. 2. Who are your acting role models? Harrison Ford. He didn't force his career. He had an opportunity, he took it, and he's been a rock for decades. He's chosen his roles wisely and has been a part of so many projects that have stood up to the test of time. He pursues his passions away from film too, which is something I admire. Adam Sandler. Think about it. He started as a young comedian. Climbed his way to SNL, then when the time was right he stared producing - years later he's built a massive career and gets to create the projects of his choosing. Not too shabby. Matt Damon. Another great story. Good Will Hunting. Come on. Now he can do anything. Comedies. The Bourne Trilogy. He's not afraid to branch out - plus he seems like a down to earth guy. His Jimmy Kimmel "rivalry" is hilarious. 3. What do you think you bring to your role in Mind’s Eye? I'm lucky enough to have had a chance to write my character after creating him with Tom Gofton and so I feel like I unknowingly put a lot more of myself into him than I necessarily intended to. Mark is faced with an enormous challenge as the foundation of the Dreamweavers, yet he also manages to stay strong and positive – at least on the surface – for the sake of his friends. Living half your life in the guise of a child would require a certain open mindedness and free-spirited nature that would be hard to hang onto under great stress. That's a quality I strive to maintain in my life off camera and one I wanted to preserve in Mark... That and the rugged manliness... Mainly the manliness thing... 4. What’s your favourite snack on a film shoot? Apples... mainly because they always seem to be around when nothing else is (like pizza). 5. If you could have a super-power, which one would it be and why? Ability to fly. 1 - it would be fun. 2 - I'd never need to look for a parking spot on a busy day ever again. 6. If you could play any other character in Mind’s Eye, who would it be and why? Koji. He was my favourite character to write. He's the new guy. He's learning. Everything is new to him. 7. What’s your favourite work of fantasy and why? The Never Ending Story. It was an amazing quest. I wanted Atreyu to be my friend. Wanted? I still want him to. 8. What are some of your favourite movies? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was my favourite when I was a kid. I still break it out from time to time. Jurassic Park! I saw that one at least three times in theatres with my Dad. My favourites are the ones I associate with my youth. There are a lot of great films out there but there is something about being young that makes everything feel more significant. I still say things like "Bossa Nova! … Chevy Nova?" or "We spared no expense!" (And yes, I know how geeky it is to admit that). 9. If you could play any character on stage and screen, who would it be and why? Indiana Jones. His job is to adventure around the world sticking it to Nazis with his dad who just so happens to be Sean Connery. He makes being a professor cool and owns a whip and a gun. Pure Hero. That or a dude version of Amile. 10. If you couldn’t be an actor, what would your dream job be and why? Architect. It's a huge creative challenge and such an influential aspect of our lives whether we're aware of it or not. Before my film career I paid for my education working with my hands so I have a strong interest in design and how things are actually built functionally rather than purely on a conceptual level.
