His neighbourhood friends are Humanity’s greatest heroes and they’ve sworn to protect him from the harsh reality of an ancient war until he is old enough to understand his place in it. Known as Dreamweavers these heroes possess the ability to alter reality with their imaginations. A couple of rules for Halloween;
1 - Don't take candy from any shady shadows.
2 - If a big red demon approaches, he's probably wearing makeup. If not...run!
3 - Don't eat anything until your parents have approved of the candy.
4 - Always travel in groups and if possible travel with a couple of Dreamweavers.
5 - Remember - heroes with BLUE energy fields are GOOD. Those with PURPLE are BAD!
And Finally,
6 - Look both ways before you cross the road...The shadows hand minions and cars can come out from both directions.
In the Dreamweavers rpg there wont be anything like classes, races, or levels. Instead, each character will be built on a pool of points. This will allow players to make the characters they want to play (within certain limits) and that fit the type of campaign being played (political, espionage, combat heavy, etc). Although there will be a fair amount of freedom when it comes to character creation, the dreamweaving and half-blood abilities can't both be given to the same character. This separates characters into three main types; half-bloods, dreamweavers, and "humans". Each type of character has it's own set of strengths and weaknesses.
Half-bloods are those who are part angel or part demon, typically because one of their parents or grandparents was a full-blooded angel or demon. These characters tend to be the most specialized of the three types. They excel in a couple of Traits, usually achieving levels well beyond the maximums for normal humans. Unfortunately, focusing on a couple Traits costs a lot of character points, so half-bloods wont have many Traits and most of them will be below average. Half-bloods are good for players who like to do a couple things really, really well.
Dreamweavers are those with the power to manifest objects using the power of their imagination. These characters tend to be the most versatile of the three types. The ability to dreamweave allows dreamweaver characters to adapt to almost any situation they find themselves in. The dreamweaving ability costs a lot of character points though, which means dreamweavers tend to have only a few average to below average Traits. Also, deamweaving takes time to use, so if a dreamweaver doesn't have time to prepare they can find themselves in a lot of trouble.
Technically all characters in the Dreamweavers rpg are human, or at least mostly human. However, the term human is also used as a catch-all for characters that aren't half-bloods or dreamweavers. Humans can have minor supernatural abilities, but typically they're just normal humans. Because humans aren't increasing a couple Traits to superhuman levels, or dumping tons of character points into the expensive dreamweaving ability, they tend to have the most Traits. This makes humans perfect jack-of-all-trades. They don't really excel in any one area like half-bloods and dreamweavers can, but they can be competent in a number of different areas all at the same time.
Depending on what the players want to play, and what the GM wants for his campaign, groups can be made up entirely of one type of character, or a mix of the three. Like in most points-buy character creation systems, there will be a huge variety of different characters that can be made. It's up to the GM to work with the players and make sure the characters are appropriate to the campaign he's going to run. However, as this is Dreamweavers, players should always be encouraged to use their imagination to come up with interesting and unique characters.
