Fan Expo 2011

MIND’S EYE TO RULE AT FAN EXPO

Summer’s end brings the heroes of sci-fi, horror, comics, and anime to Toronto for the National Fan Expo, an event that’s now thought of as the San Diego Comic Con of the north.

Synn Studios has been a regular presence at Fan Expo the last several years, and at last year’s event, the production team of MIND’S EYE used the occasion to exclusively show the trailer for the premiere season of the series. So what’s coming up for the 2011 Fan Expo? Let’s just say there’s more to see and do than our usual booth in the Rue Morgue section.

To begin with, and for the first time, MIND’S EYE will be hosting a panel at the Expo where fans and newcomers can learn all about the series, its origins, and maybe where it’s going next. Several members of the cast and crew have already been confirmed including creator/producer Thomas Gofton, and actors Nik MacMillan (Illia), Johnny Quinn (The Dolgrath) and Melanie Marie (Khaleigha) as well as AMC The Walking Dead's Chandler Riggs who will be talking about his up and coming role of "Tristan" in the next official season. More guests will be announced as we count down the days to the Expo.

And because Fan Expo is also about gaming, the gang from Team 7 will be on hand to talk about and demonstrate the beta version of the MIND’S EYE game. The game has already been shown off for the public at last month’s Polaris 25 convention, but the Team 7 boys are making improvements and additions to the game all the time. An exclusive at Fan Expo, fans will get another chance to try the game and offer feedback.

As well, you’ll be able to meet and greet with the cast and crew on the convention floor, and buy merch like t-shirts, hoodies, DVDs and CD soundtracks. It’s going to be another exciting year at Fan Expo for the MIND’S EYE gang, so if you’re coming down to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on August 25th through 28th, be sure to look us up.

Of course, Dreamweaver cosplayers are always welcome!

Podcast and Film Festival

Back before the show launched the creators of Mind's Eye the fantasy webseries journeyed across the lands to various Comic conventions to pre-promote the show. One of the adventures lead them to a great pod cast group called "Sci-fi Saturday Night". The host team of the show invited Thomas Gofton, creator and star of the show to come on and chat about what to expect from the up and coming release of Season One.

It was a great conversation and all involved had a fun time. Now, almost 6 months later, the folks of Sci-Fi Saturday Night have invited Thomas back for a recap of the first seasons launch as we approach the finale! Episode 24 - Forest for the trees. Tune in here to listen to the pod cast live on Saturday night, April 23rd at 8:00pm Eastern time.

Then, if you still haven't had enough Mind's Eye and you're interested in meeting the creators the show will exhibit several episodes live in a theater at the SharpCuts: Indie Music and Film Festival. The festival takes place in the show's home town and is expecting quite the homecoming. After, guests will be able to meet and greet with the creators and more. The location is the Synnema at 121 Wyndham Street N. Unit 106 in Guelph ON on Webseries Wednesday Night starting line up at 7pm.

Don't miss this one as well as other webseries from all over including the award winning "Out with Dad" and the L.A. great comedy "Night of the Zombie King".

Two great nights and two great Mind's Eye opportunities!

The Creators are off to L.A.

LA Web Fest 2011

The creators of MIND’S EYE are heading to the filmmaking capital of the world, Los Angeles, California, to take part in the Los Angeles Web Series Festival, or LA WebFest, running from March 25-27.

The brainchild of writer/producer Michael Ajakwe Jr. (sitcoms Eve and Sister, Sister), LA WebFest began in 2010 as way for webseries creators to come together, meet one and other, learn and share from each other, and screen their work in a more “traditional” setting: The Stage 52 Theatre on the Miracle Mile. Last year, 2,500 people came to the Fest and saw 50 different webseries including Diary of a Single Mom, Ctrl and The Bannen Way.

This year the number of accepted series to the festival is 70. Selected from over 200 submissions, MIND’S EYE is only one of six (6) webseries accepted from Canada. MIND’S EYE will be screened on Sunday March 27th and is also eligible for an award, which will be given out at a ceremony that also takes place on Sunday the 27th.

Additionally, MIND’S EYE creators Thomas M. Gofton and Tom Roper-Brown will take part in a panel called “How We Pulled It Off,” where Gofton and Brown will share (some of) their secrets in how they made a 24-episode fantasy webseries for low five figures. MIND’S EYE was shot entirely last summer at locations in and around Guelph. Post-production for the series, including the complex visual effects, sound design and original score is being handled entirely in-house at Synn Studios.

“We are extremely excited about being recognized for our efforts in the ‘Mecca’ of movie making,” said Gofton. “It’s also exciting to return to L.A., where our journey to produce MIND’S EYE began, having accomplished our goal of bringing our fantasy series to life.”

“It feels great to get recognized for our hard work,” adds Brown. “But really, this is a tribute to all the people that put in so much time and effort and energy into making MIND’S EYE a reality.”

MIND’S EYE is currently two-thirds of the way of through its inaugural season, and a new episode can be seen every Friday at http://mindseyeseries.com/ as well as blip.tv and koldkast.tv. MIND’S EYE will also be having a big screen premiere in Guelph at the Galaxy Cinema's this coming May to celebrate the season finale.
