Fan Expo 2011

MIND’S EYE TO RULE AT FAN EXPO

Summer’s end brings the heroes of sci-fi, horror, comics, and anime to Toronto for the National Fan Expo, an event that’s now thought of as the San Diego Comic Con of the north.

Synn Studios has been a regular presence at Fan Expo the last several years, and at last year’s event, the production team of MIND’S EYE used the occasion to exclusively show the trailer for the premiere season of the series. So what’s coming up for the 2011 Fan Expo? Let’s just say there’s more to see and do than our usual booth in the Rue Morgue section.

To begin with, and for the first time, MIND’S EYE will be hosting a panel at the Expo where fans and newcomers can learn all about the series, its origins, and maybe where it’s going next. Several members of the cast and crew have already been confirmed including creator/producer Thomas Gofton, and actors Nik MacMillan (Illia), Johnny Quinn (The Dolgrath) and Melanie Marie (Khaleigha) as well as AMC The Walking Dead's Chandler Riggs who will be talking about his up and coming role of "Tristan" in the next official season. More guests will be announced as we count down the days to the Expo.

And because Fan Expo is also about gaming, the gang from Team 7 will be on hand to talk about and demonstrate the beta version of the MIND’S EYE game. The game has already been shown off for the public at last month’s Polaris 25 convention, but the Team 7 boys are making improvements and additions to the game all the time. An exclusive at Fan Expo, fans will get another chance to try the game and offer feedback.

As well, you’ll be able to meet and greet with the cast and crew on the convention floor, and buy merch like t-shirts, hoodies, DVDs and CD soundtracks. It’s going to be another exciting year at Fan Expo for the MIND’S EYE gang, so if you’re coming down to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on August 25th through 28th, be sure to look us up.

Of course, Dreamweaver cosplayers are always welcome!

Meet the Cast Part 4 – Thomas M. Gofton

Moving onward with our look at the cast of MIND'S EYE, we come upon Thomas Gofton. Not only does he play hero cowboy-samurai in the series, but Gofton also created the show, produced it, and directed many of the episodes. With such a busy schedule, it's a wonder he had time to answer the questionnaire, but read on to learn about Thomas in all his nerdish glory.

Thomas M. Gofton / Hero Patrick

1) What’s your previous acting experience?

A couple of feature films, one a Horror that was picked up by Troma Films. A few short films, commercials and some musical stage. About 75 per cent of that is a playground I've built for myself and the rest are successful auditions. So it's a different experience.

2) Who are your acting role models?

Jeremy Piven from Entourage (more recent show for him) and Linda Hamilton for being so real and open.

3) What do you think you bring to your role in Mind’s Eye?

Dedication. I created this piece and if I don't give 110 per cent then it's like I'm cheating myself out of my own success. I hoped to bring humour as well, but that's always very subjective.

4) What are your favourite snacks on a film shoot?

Banana Chips and Coffee!

5) If you could have a super-power, which one would it be and why?

Emotion Control. You could do a lot of cleaning up if you could control others’ fears, sadness, greed. Just wipe it all away!

6) If you could play any other character in Mind’s Eye, who would it be and why?

Mark. I have an obsession with Knightly personifications. Swords, armour...nerdy like things. Mark was originally created for myself, however, I needed to push away from that persona and grow as an actor and take a more challenging role for my talents.

7) What’s your favourite work of fantasy and why?

Dungeons and Dragons. It's just a marvel of creativity and magical belief. But if I had to choose a work that is more commonplace I'd say the Peter Pan story because it's everything I believe in. Childhood should never be forgotten.

8) What are some of your favourite movies?

Finding Neverland, Moulin Rouge, Excalibur, The Last Legion, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Real Men and Peter Pan.

9) If you could play any character on stage and screen, who would it be and why?

Luke Skywalker. Simply my fav.

10) If you couldn’t be an actor, what would your dream job be and why?

Teaching youth. For me acting comes along with being a producer and an editor and all that indie film stuff. If acting went away, then teaching kids age 10 to 13 is where I would next make my impact by helping to develop stronger, more educated and wise youth!
