Gear Part 3 – Production Gear

This third part of the production equipment podcast, you’ll see some of the tools the camera operator and grips use while preparing for the upcoming scene’s shoot. Some of the camera gear most often used were either a Manfrotto 351MVB2 as well as the Glidecam’s Smooth Shooter. In order to fit a season’s worth of shooting into the number of production days we have, the shooting schedule for each day is pretty tight, so some scenes have to go from using one camera to two:one on sticks, the other on the Glidecam from a different angle. Most other pieces of grip equipment featured, like the electrical outlet tester, LED lights, clothespins, etc. are things that can be picked up from any hardware store while some other items like gels, gaffer tape and toughspun were bought from a local supplier in Guelph, Scenework, who were nice enough to open their doors to us to run in and make a few last minute purchases, even though they happened to be closed for that day.

Script Breakdown

Writer, Thomas Brown and Director of Photography, Nick Montgomery, gathered with Creator Thomas Gofton to breakdown the 24 scripts. Together they sorted locations, props, character breakdowns and content. DP Nick sifted out all the possible visual effects for testing purposes. His list though long is not unaccomplished. Stay tuned as we present visual effects testing in the days to come.
