Transmedia

Whether Indie or Blockbuster, filmmakers are conforming to a trend that’s not so new to the industry of filmmaking. Transmedia is the art of taking your project from one platform to the next, platforms such as graphic novels, literature and games. Marketing as an artist labelled ‘Indie’, transmedia could be the difference between going to the next level and shelving an old idea. The creator, Thomas Gofton and the crew of Mind’s Eye the Fantasy Series are here to answer any and all questions about this awesome tool, transmedia.

The Creators are off to L.A.

LA Web Fest 2011

The creators of MIND’S EYE are heading to the filmmaking capital of the world, Los Angeles, California, to take part in the Los Angeles Web Series Festival, or LA WebFest, running from March 25-27.

The brainchild of writer/producer Michael Ajakwe Jr. (sitcoms Eve and Sister, Sister), LA WebFest began in 2010 as way for webseries creators to come together, meet one and other, learn and share from each other, and screen their work in a more “traditional” setting: The Stage 52 Theatre on the Miracle Mile. Last year, 2,500 people came to the Fest and saw 50 different webseries including Diary of a Single Mom, Ctrl and The Bannen Way.

This year the number of accepted series to the festival is 70. Selected from over 200 submissions, MIND’S EYE is only one of six (6) webseries accepted from Canada. MIND’S EYE will be screened on Sunday March 27th and is also eligible for an award, which will be given out at a ceremony that also takes place on Sunday the 27th.

Additionally, MIND’S EYE creators Thomas M. Gofton and Tom Roper-Brown will take part in a panel called “How We Pulled It Off,” where Gofton and Brown will share (some of) their secrets in how they made a 24-episode fantasy webseries for low five figures. MIND’S EYE was shot entirely last summer at locations in and around Guelph. Post-production for the series, including the complex visual effects, sound design and original score is being handled entirely in-house at Synn Studios.

“We are extremely excited about being recognized for our efforts in the ‘Mecca’ of movie making,” said Gofton. “It’s also exciting to return to L.A., where our journey to produce MIND’S EYE began, having accomplished our goal of bringing our fantasy series to life.”

“It feels great to get recognized for our hard work,” adds Brown. “But really, this is a tribute to all the people that put in so much time and effort and energy into making MIND’S EYE a reality.”

MIND’S EYE is currently two-thirds of the way of through its inaugural season, and a new episode can be seen every Friday at http://mindseyeseries.com/ as well as blip.tv and koldkast.tv. MIND’S EYE will also be having a big screen premiere in Guelph at the Galaxy Cinema's this coming May to celebrate the season finale.
