Transmedia

Whether Indie or Blockbuster, filmmakers are conforming to a trend that’s not so new to the industry of filmmaking. Transmedia is the art of taking your project from one platform to the next, platforms such as graphic novels, literature and games. Marketing as an artist labelled ‘Indie’, transmedia could be the difference between going to the next level and shelving an old idea. The creator, Thomas Gofton and the crew of Mind’s Eye the Fantasy Series are here to answer any and all questions about this awesome tool, transmedia.

Calgary Welcomes Mind's Eye

Calgary Post

Creator/Director Thomas Gofton will be in attendance at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2011, held on June 17th-19th at the BMO Centre downtown Calgary, Alberta. Come check us out on the exhibitor floor.

The Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo was born in 2006 after carefully evaluating the potential of a show dedicated to not only comics, but to the cross-media attention that exists in the entertainment industry. As has been the result, the expo has become the single largest event of its kind across all of Western Canada. They feature all elements of pop culture including sci-fi, fantasy, anime, gaming, animation, and the horror genres.

Also in Attendance will be the series Director of Photography Nicholas Montgomery. Together, Montgomery and Gofton will be hosting a Transmedia panel on Sunday the 19th at 11am in the Workshop room. Come learn all about the show and what we're doing to cross platform into many different areas of media.

The panel description:

What exactly is “Transmedia”? The crew of the popular webseries Mind's Eye will give examples of the different types of transmedia, explain what is meant by sticky content and share some secrets on success as an independent company.

Playtest Dreamweaver RPG

The Dreamweaver RPG playtest package is now available to download from the Mind's Eye web site. The package includes everything you need to start playing Dreamweaver, including the playtest version of the core rules, a character sheet, and a pre-made adventure.

We're asking all playtesters to play through the provided adventure at least once before you start making up your own adventures.

We'd appreciate any and all feedback you may have, but there are a couple things in particular that we'd like to get your opinions on:

We wanted the combat system to be quick and easy to use, but we didn't want fights to be over after a single dice roll. Do you think the combat system achieves this, or is it too lethal, or do combats take too long to resolve?

The dreamweaving ability has proven to be a challenge to balance. Do you find dreamweavers to be adequately balanced with other character types, or are they too powerful, or are they too weak?

Are there any rules that are difficult to understand, either because they were poorly written, because there aren't enough examples, etc?

Are there any important rules that seem to be missing or need to be expanded?

What part of the rules do you see as needs improvement?

What part of the rules did you enjoy the most?

Download the playtesters package HERE.

Screening at Gen Con

Film Festival Official Selection

Gen-Con-Upd-Con-Update

Mind's Eye the Fantasy Series has been invited to screen as part of the festivities of Indianapolis' famous gaming convention, GEN CON.

Gen Con Indy is the original, longest running, best attended, gaming convention in the world. For over 41 years, Gen Con Indy has been setting the trend and breaking records. Last year, more than 100,698 turnstile and 30,000 unique attendees experienced Gen Con Indy. The biggest complaint we hear is that there is simply too much to do, see, and experience. Get lost in a phantasm of art exhibits. Stare at jaw-dropping costumes, or better yet, wear one of your own. Meet the movers and the shakers in the gaming industry. Check out the newest games and get a sneak peek at the latest editions.

And the best part about that description is that Mind's Eye is going to be there on the film track as part of the film festival. The creator and subsequent cast/crew will be in attendance on a panel during the weekend so don't be shy!
